
Lithuanian Investments Abroad Increased by 20%
As of 1 April 2008, Lithuanian enterprises’ direct investments abroad made EUR 1.3 billion, or by almost 20% more than on 1 January 2008 (EUR 1.1 billion), Lithuanian Department of Statistics has reported.
Most of all – EUR 342 million (26.8% of the total direct investments abroad) – was invested in Latvia. Russia received EUR 136 million (10.7%), Poland – EUR 119 million (9.3%), the Netherlands – EUR 116 million (9%), Ukraine – EUR 110 million (8.6%), Bulgaria – EUR 98 million (7.8%), Estonia – EUR 81 million (6.4%).
Lithuania’s direct investments in EU-27 countries made EUR 921 million (72.3% of Lithuania’s direct investments abroad), in CIS countries – EUR 264 million (20.7%).
Lithuanian enterprises mostly invested in real estate, renting and other business enterprises abroad – EUR 495 million (38.8% of the total direct investment s abroad), financial intermediation – EUR 226 million (17.8%), manufacturing – EUR 209 million (16.4%), wholesale and retail trade – EUR 145 million (11.3 %), and transport, storage and communication – EUR 96 million (7.4%). Within manufacturing, the bulk of investments fell per manufacture of chemical products – EUR 101 million (48.1% of the total direct investments in manufacturing abroad), food products, beverages and tobacco – EUR 52 million (25.2%).
